What has the response to virtual sports betting been like in the US so far? Is it something that US players are keen to explore?

I am sure that, as soon as US players give virtual sports a try, they are going to like them. Te situation is the same as when I started with virtual sports in Europe, in 2006. It might take some time and adjustments to reach the amazing results we have achieved in multiple markets around the world, but we are more than willing to go for it.

Our virtual sports have major advantages: they are very easy to learn, as players are not required to have much previous knowledge they are always available, operators can offer numerous events per day/week, they are not affected by competitors’ injuries or bad weather, and most importantly, they offer a steady source of income to platforms and operators, among many other benefits.

If virtual sports are introduced and offered correctly, their prospects of growth in the US are enormous. In our case, we are in close contact with our clients there, and we are committed to help them make sure virtual sports thrive.

How do virtual sports help operators more easily integrate sports betting onto their casino floors?

Virtual sports have been proven to be an opportunity to cover some of the operators’ fixed costs. If a casino decides to open a sports betting bar within its facilities, as many important companies are doing, virtual sports will be essential to gain customers when sports seasons

are low. It is also proven that the presence of virtuals at betting shops increases traffic. We know it by our own experience and the solid testimonies of our clients. In some markets, we even have clients selling more tickets with our virtual soccer than during the real competitions, all without cannibalising their main business!

Virtual sports also open the door for casino game players to the world of sports betting. Since it is a hybrid product (a sportsbook with virtual, RNG generated results), casino players can test the games anytime by utilising the instant mode, as they would do with a casino game, and feel more comfortable later to jump to betting on real competitions.

In addition, we also provide games that are much more similar to classic casino games to fill one further gap.

What are the particular legal obstacles that pertain to virtual sports betting in the US at the state level?

As the legalisation of betting is still very recent,

and virtual sports is also still undergoing approvals in certain states, the answer is yes, there are many legal requirements still ahead of us. However, this is also very positive, since it ensures that all providers and operators comply with strict rules to keep players safe. Fortunately, we have an excellent legal team that has been working hard to obtain the first licence for virtual sports in the US, and who will continue to prepare us to access additional states that offer the most interesting sports betting markets.

Much of the focus amongst local lawmakers has been fixed upon finding ways to allow already existing land-based operators to expand their offering on site. The adoption of Self-Service Betting Terminals is expected to be high. What’s your view on the opportunties for SSBTs in the US market?

After years of experience developing terminal solutions in Europe, we are about to launch new SSBT software, specifically designed to meet the latest players’ preferences. It is a great option for retail, as players can bet at the same time, on the same machine, on different games and sports. Particularly in this era when we need to avoid crowds and maintain social distancing, Self- Service Betting Terminals are a great solution, as every player has a personal place to bet, check results and enjoy their betting experience.

However, it is very important to consider that US players are not inclined to use SSBT yet, unless they receive personalised assistance from betting shop employees. We are preparing a programme to help our clients educate consumers to fully understand this new product, and to make the product launch much more impactful and profitable for them.
