The EDC Heads to Monte-Carlo in 2022


Following the cancellation of this year's event, the European Casino Association has announced new dates for the competition in 2022.


Te European Dealer Championship (EDC) will take place at Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, from May 16-18, 2022.


MONACO CASINO OPERATIONS


UKRAINE – Storm International’s Shangri La casino has opened its doors in Kiev to become the first licensed foreign casino in Ukraine. Pictured at the opening is Storm CEO, Darren Keane, and founder, Michael Boettcher. The casino is located on the first floor of the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv, with a total area of 1,620sq.m. The expansive gaming floor includes a VIP club with three private rooms, 20 table games offering American roulette, blackjack, punto banco and poker, plus 80 slot machines and electronic roulette. Mr. Keane stated that the Shangri La sets a quality standard benchmark in Kiev for customer service that raises the bar for the entire sector.


UK –SoftConstruct has registered two BetConstruct games with the UK Gambling Commission, the company’s bet-on lottery game, Talisman, and prediction game, Big Hi-Lo. BetConstuct described the opportunity to offer these games as a gateway to business expansion for its UK partners.


FRANCE – The municipal council of Fécamp, in the Seine-Maritime region of France, has renewed its licence to operate the town's casino with a subsidiary of JOA, the only group to respond to the concession notice launched on May 22, 2019. The casino was previously operated under the Emerald brand, before being bought by JOA in July 2019. The new concession will begin on November 1.


Mayor of Fécamp, Marie-Agnès Poussier-Winsback said JOA had secured a 20 year licence to operate the casino currently located on the seafront, but which will be relocated to the port of Fécamp, Chaussée Gayant. The new casino will occupy am area of 2,400sq.m, up from 890sq. from the current casino. The €8m casino is due to open in Februray 2024, with the current establishment remaining open during the interim period.


The municipal levy will be 13 to 15 per cent, with the municipality becoming the owner of the new casino’s building at the end of the concession.


IRELAND – Senators have begun debating the creation of Ireland’s new gambling regulator. Part of the overhaul involves the creation of a new gambling regulator, whose creation has already been much delayed. There were plans to introduce the new regulator this year, but the launch has been put back to 2023. However, ministers in the Irish Republic are pushing for this to be bought forward due to the pandemic.


Once established, the new regulator will assume all current gambling licensing and regulatory responsibilities as well as new and more extensive enforcement duties.

Following the cancellation of this year's event, the European Casino Association has responded swiftly to calls from the land-based gaming industry to announce new dates for the competition in 2022. Postponed twice due to the impact of the pandemic and ongoing restrictions affecting European travellers, the ECA Board of Directors has confirmed that the next edition of the European Dealer Championship (EDC) will take place at Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, from May 16-18, 2022.
