To complement the Cars franchise, a new film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Planes, is due to land in UK cinemas from August 2013, and will be supported by a strong cross-company marketing campaign. Marianthi O’Dwyer, vice president of Licensing


and Publishing for The Walt Disney Company UK and Ireland, said: “The Cars franchise has strongly delivered in global retail sales, and with a wealth of new content and regularly refreshed product ranges, the success is set to continue. We’re excited to be introducing Planes, the world above Cars, with a new feature film in August. Both vehicles align so well with boys’ play patterns, and we’re excited about seeing ranges for Cars and Planes on many Christmas wish lists in 2013.”


Other film properties....Disney has a strong slate for 2013, with Wreck It Ralph and Iron Man 3 both eargerly anticipated. The Postman Pat film is expected to provide a significant boost to the brand, whilst the One Direction movie slated for release in October will surely guarantee another strong year for merchandise featuring the UK’s biggest boy band. The Walking with Dinosaurs 3D movie, which is due for release towards the end of the year, is also sure to be a ‘monster’ hit with boys of all ages.

Warner Bros Consumer Products believes that the future can be found in the past with Tom and Jerry. While being totally new to young children, it boasts parental endorsement and has the potential to overcome the risk averse nature of retail because of its heritage that spans more than 70 years. The brand will also get a boost from new content, with production underway on new animation, The Tom and Jerry Show, which will launch later this year. Produced by Sam Register, who made the Looney Tunes Show, it promises to deliver the timeless cat and mouse rivalry of the original episodes. This will continue to drive awareness supporting master toy partner Giochi Preziosi, who after a successful introduction in Italy last year will launch across Europe in 2013. Hero products will include Classic Chaos and Tag Team figure assortments, Madness Mayhem playsets and Whack and Win action games.


Looney Tunes is loved by children and adults for its funny, outrageous characters and high-energy performances that have endured over generations. 2012 saw Warner Bros Consumer Products sign the first master toy partner for Looney Tunes in the UK, Character Options. This deal will see the toy company develop and manufacture a collection
