Products is putting in place a three-year retail presence for The Hobbit Trilogy across all major outlets and independents, to capture the imagination of both loyal and new fans alike.
Disney-Pixar’s original Monsters Inc (opening 18th January 2013) and the brand new prequel, Monsters University (premiering 12th July 2013) will both open in cinemas for the fi rst time in Disney Digital 3D. In addition to bringing back to the screen the well-loved characters from Monsters Inc, a new cast of characters will be introduced, presenting new product opportunities for licensees and fresh point-of-sale angles at
retail. In the build-up to the eagerly-awaited releases, master toy licensee, Spin Master, has created a Monsters Inc toy range which features a 12” Peek-a- Boo Boo Doll and Huggable Boo Plush which both recite clips from the original fi lm, as well as a 2” collectable fi gurine pack featuring Sulley, Mike and Boo characters. Both fi lms will be supported by cross-platform promotional activity across Disney.
Despicable Me grossed more than $543m worldwide, which has made the sequel, Despicable Me 2, one of the most sought-after properties in Hollywood. The original was released in July 2010 and went on to become the 10th highest grossing animated fi lm in US history, and the second highest grossing animated fi lm in 2010. For the sequel, Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed fi lmmaking team create an all-new animated adventure featuring the return of Super Villain Gru, his adorable girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions, and host of new characters.
