Tom Roberts Famosa selects Import Services

Famosa has announced the opening of its new UK platform in conjunction with Import Services of Southampton. The new distribution platform will be operational from January 1st in time to support the launch of Famosa’s new Furby plush line and the I Love Minnie range of dolls, with the TV campaign starting in February next year. Paul Fogarty, Famosa UK country manager, reported: “We are thrilled to be

working with Import Services who has a track record of delivering outstanding retail logistics services, particularly to the toy industry. The opening of the platform will not only support the growth and expansion of the Famosa doll and plush business but will also allow the development of the Feber foot-to-floor and ride-on business. The first range into the warehouse will be our new line of Furby plush which will enable consumers straight after Christmas to be part of the Furby phenomenon at collectable price points.”

from the editor @tomtoyworld

Hello and welcome to the January issue of Toy World. At an epic 228 pages, I think you’ll agree this is one weighty tome, and one that we’re pleased and proud to be able to bring to you after the festive period. December has been a busy month, and by ‘busy’ I mean I have more grey hair than when I started (Luke Hillier of Click distribution knows what I’m talking about). Not only has the whole Toy World team been working like mad on this issue, but we’ve been out and about at previews too. I can honestly say that my first experience of a December in the toy industry has been extremely varied and very interesting. I’ve managed to see first-hand new lines from a number of companies for 2013. That’s the thing that excites me the most. As a toy fan and journalist, it’s a brilliant feeling. Toy Fair’s here! No really, check the date, it’s just around the corner. When I first

started work on Toy World, my new colleagues told me that Toy Fair was brilliant, and that by the end of the show I’d be knackered. From the amount of companies working with us, I don’t think they were lying. We have a lot of clients and supporters to see, and three days to do it in. Speaking of which, my calendar is very nearly full up with appointments, so please get in touch if you’d like to meet up. I’ll be doing my best to get round everyone, but if we have something in the diary, it’s set in stone, plus or minus 15-20 minutes... So I have to mention that January itself is also going to very busy, and very

Toy State invests in new production facilities and showroom

Toy State’s new showroom in Hong Kong will be welcoming customers to review the range of Road Rippers and Caterpillar products for 2013. The company, as part of its European expansion plans, will also be exhibiting at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. Simon Cheng, chairman of Toy State, has said that the company has seen significant growth within the USA and Asia and expectations for Europe are high. Toy State is investing in new production facilities to increase its capacity and ensure continued attention to quality and design. The company is actively looking for opportunities to enhance its portfolio by acquisition and/or partnership with other brands.

varied. Not only will we be working on the next issue of Toy World but there’s a three-week run where each week will see the team attending a different trade show. To give you a quick rundown, John Baulch, our publisher and fearless leader, was in Hong Kong at the start of the month, three of us will be in Nuremberg, and all of us will be at Olympia and the NEC for Toy Fair and Spring Fair, respectively. It’s going to be a crazy month, but we’re really looking forward to it. The January issue is focused primarily on the BTHA Toy Fair 2013 preview to help you plan your visit to the Olympia-based trade show. However, we also have features on the hot licensed properties of 2013, a follow-up feature on the Nuremberg Toy Fair, and our usual assortment of informative features, interview, news, views and opinions. We’ve increased the size of our Talking Shop feature to three pages this issue, and we’re delighted that so many retailers took the time to talk to us during the busy December trading period. Don’t forget to also check out our Spring Fair International 2013 supplement that landed on your doorstep with this issue; just another helpful trade show guide brought to you by Toy World. Remember that you can get in touch with me by email at tom@toyworldmag.

com, by phone on 01442 840 305, and you can follow me on Twitter, @ TomToyWorld. If you have any news, views or opinions, I’d love to hear from you. I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together. Take

care, and we’ll see you in Nuremberg, Olympia and the NEC. PS: Just as a little teaser...we’ve managed to secure some very exciting interviews with some interesting people in unique sectors of the toy industry. I would love to say more, but it would ruin the surprise.
