Kathryn Simkins of Year 11 but perhaps the most outstanding performance was from Declan Boothe-Brennan from Year 9 who topped all of the students in Year 9 and those in Year 10 as well. Economics and Business Studies are large and successful subjects within our Sixth Form. Students in these areas take part in many competitions and enrichment activities. Most notable this year were the group which took part in the Bank of England Interest Rate Challenge. They won the area final beating many of the local prestigious schools and gave a very creditable performance in the regional final for the whole of the North of England. Those students who gave such a good account of themselves were Bonny and Sarah Wang, Ismael Vasquez Fernandez and Christopher McKenna who captained the team and they were very ably supported by Bozhena Kelestyn, Katrina Dang, Alex Stephenson and Alex Verkhoturov. This award scheme has grown greatly in popularity in the school during the past few years and we now have 28 students enrolled on the Bronze Award, 12 on the Silver and 14 students on the Gold. We now have students who have passed through the Bronze, Silver and have moved on to the Gold Award thus completing the full set, Paige O’Malley being a good example. Last year’s Gold Award Winners who graced this stage 12 months ago have now collected their awards at Buckingham Palace.
