Work progressed on the Abbey Chambers refurbishment and we took “delivery” of the first wing of Abbey Chambers after the Easter holidays. Year 9 boarders now live there with a handful of Year 10/11 boys. Work started on the second wing immediately after term ended and should be completed by the end of June. The rooms are all high tech o high specification with their own en-suite facilities which I am sure the students will enjoy.


This term saw the arrival of our eleven new GAP students who temporarily lived in a Youth Hostel in York in January whilst we waited for their CRB’s (Police checks) to come through. They have now all settled in the boarding houses and have already made a valuable contribution to the lives of the younger boarders. They will introduce themselves shortly.


At the end of term we said goodbye to Mr Nick Kirkwood who had been with us for two years, the majority of which was as Head of Boys Boarding. He made a valuable contribution to school life both in boarding and with his involvement with D of E and will be greatly missed. We hope he is doing well in his new post with his wife at Lincoln Minster School, running a boarding house with her and being involved in boys sport. Megan Seabridge has taken the position of Assistant Head of Boarding and is overseeing both boys and girls boarding houses working alongside Alex Ralls and myself.


Once again, we have had a very successful, exciting and interesting year in Boarding, with a wide variety of trips and activities available to students. As a continually expanding boarding community, the challenge is always to provide new and innovative entertainment both on and off campus, and this year we have successfully introduced some new activities.
