of the best cadets from around the country and will learn a lot, not only from the instructors but also from their peers. This training will form the basis for an increased role and greater responsibility within the Contingent.

Looking ahead, we want to build on the successes of last year. We had an enthusiastic Recruits’ Cadre in the Autumn term and they have now chosen to join either the Army or RAF Section. The challenge is to inspire them to come on the appropriate Summer camp and to stay in the CCF beyond Year 9 or 10. The focus of Thursday afternoons will remain syllabus training, but we want to give the cadets more exciting opportunities to apply their training in practical situations. They enjoy shooting and there will definitely be more during the Summer term as we will make the short trip to RAF Linton on Ouse to use the range there. This year’s Army Central Camp will be with our parent Regiment the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in Germany and it will undoubtedly be the most exciting yet. It is also intended to again take the RAF cadets to an RAF flying station.
Adventurous training has proved extremely popular with the cadets and we have ambitious plans here too. The planned Winter skills course had to be cancelled because of a lack of instructors (Winter mountain leaders are like gold dust), but there will again be a weekend walking challenge for the fitter cadets as we attempt to walk all of the Lakeland 3000s at the beginning of May. The CCF year will end with an exciting trip to Iceland in August, and the combination of a true wilderness experience the opportunity to see glaciers, geysers, massive waterfalls, volcanoes and to bathe in natural hot springs will make it even more memorable than last Year’s Mont Blanc trip.
