Gym and Dance display
On the 25th, 26th and 27th of February the school held the first ever Gym and Dance Display. The display was a mixture of dance, gymnastics routines, trampette routines, trampolining sequences and a vaulting display to finish.
The participants ranged from
year 5 Chapter House students up to year 13 students with over 100 students participating. When I initially introduced the idea of doing a Gym and Dance display, I had no idea of the scale it would turn out to be. Students were dedicated, ambitious and highly motivated throughout the choreographical process and the final rehearsal days which led to a fantastic display of their newly-found talents.
Year 8 -The gym and dance display was hard work but it all paid off. We were proud of ourselves and we thank Miss Papaglimis for all of her hard work. This Gym and Dance display will lead us onto bigger things in the future and we would like to do it again and improve. (Ellie Knox, Ynshele Bourthoumieux, Merym Akcicek)
We enjoyed participating in such a successful series of nights performing in front of such a big audience. Taking it back through the ages, recreating the Spice Girls and sailors in Candy man with quick 10 second changeovers gave of some of the funniest moments of the whole thing including Stevie slipping across the floor as sporty spice in her silky tracksuit trousers, Jess getting stuck in her corset, Tiff doing the Euro dancer dance with glow sticks in her scary spice leopard print top, luminous face paint exploding all over the floor and the girls’ leggings!
We rehearsed twice a week after prep and again this made for an entertaining hour! During rehearsal times Sammi kept asking when ‘Groove is in the House’ would be (we presume she meant Groove is in the Heart).
During the performances, despite the odd mistake, we enjoyed it very much and fed off the fantastic reaction of the crowd. We cannot wait for next year for a performance which will be bigger, better and braver! We hope that as the senior girl’s squad we have inspired more students to participate in production and find their talents as we have done this year. We hope we have shown what a bit of commitment and determination can do.
