The start of the year brought two new house captains into Lyminge, Christopher Alderson and Amanda McCourt, and also a new Head of House in the form of Miss Blakeley, and after a spirited start to the year, we were the team to beat.

It started with a victory in the House Music competition in a close encounter with the other houses who also put in a good performance, however we pulled to- gether to get a victory that would set the standard for the coming weeks.

We then went on to win both the House Rugby and House Hockey competitions putting us firmly in the lead in the run up to Christmas. Our next success came in the form of a win in the House Charity competition for the winter term from weeks of cake sales, raffles and arranging ‘L House Hoodies’ to be purchased through a local company to anyone in Lyminge; from this victory we won a meal for Sixth Formers in Lyminge at Ask restaurant in York, giving us a chance to bask in our achievement.

However, something had to give: despite having many students who had been at QE for a long time, we obviously don’t have a good memory as the famous QE quiz took its toll and we unfortunately came last. Tasting defeat for the first time was hard, but we could only pull ourselves together and look forwards and not back.

After Christmas, the House figures came out, and although we were in the lead, it wasn’t by what we thought we were in front by. The lack of individual House Points brought our figures right down and we knew E House were breathing down our necks.

E House came to be our rivals in the House Debate competition, as although we won convincingly in some of our younger years, we unfortunately lost by only a few points in the Sixth Form debating section, which brought our scores down.

The House Football and Basketball competitions again showed some improve- ment as we won some of our sections in both competitions, however things again took a turn for the worst and we lost in the House Netball.

Individual House Points showed heavily in the points over the year, so now we’re looking towards the future in the House Drama competition to overshadow last year’s dismal performance and get back to winning ways.

The two new House Captains, Ben Hammonds and Catherine Tiang, will no doubt rally the troops in Sports Day in the summer term to help bring the House Cup to L House this year.

But we may have a few tricks up our sleeve yet.
