The beginning of 2010 has brought a fantastic start to the equestrian year at Queen Ethelburga's with pleasing results at competitions held within the school and outside of it. On the 7th February a team of six: Lindsey Lynch, Oonagh Hagan, Caroline Ostenfeld, Holly Coward, Rosie Jilla and Charlotte Astleford all travelled to Askham Bryan college to participate in the show jumping there. Everyone completed excellent rounds and on return everyone had a smile on their faces, especially when we were told we would be stopping off at McDonalds! Charlotte was particularly pleased with her 2nd in the 1m05 class.

Four days later and it was a different job that the riders at QE had to prepare for. The examiners arrived at 9am ready to proceed with the Riding and Road Safety test. Six riders successfully passed through the three challenging stages.
On 7th March another team of four riders: Rosie Jilla, Charlotte Astleford, Lindsey Lynch and Holly Coward travelled to Port Royal with Rosie and Charlotte competing in dressage, and Lindsey and Holly competing in the show jumping. The show jumping had a well built course with many spooky fillers. Both girls completed two very encouraging and well ridden rounds but unfortunately were just out of the placings. The dressage was very successful, with Rosie gaining 1st and 3rd placings and Charlotte gaining 3rd and 4th placings in the Preliminary 13 and Novice 24 respectively.
The following Saturday, a Jumping with Style competition was held here at QE and we continued to get fantastic results. The whole day was very exciting with all competitors thoroughly enjoying themselves. We had a team in the 1m05 of Lindsey Lynch, Oonagh Hagan, Sophie Evans and Charlotte Astleford. All the girls jumped beautifully and we were delighted when it was announced that we had won and qualified for the championships at the end of the year, with Charlotte also gaining 4th individually and Lindsey gaining 6th.
