with the foundation stage kids and filing up a storm in the school office. It’s rewarding work and no day is the same! Above all, this year I hope to embody what we GAPs stand for – Great Australian People.

For me a GAP year is the hardest decision in the world to make, leaving friends, family and university after finishing my first year was a scary thought. However after being here only 3 months I have realised it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. It was a very large culture shock when we arrived to the coldest winter in 30 years apparently but the snow made up for that! While I do miss the sunshine and the beaches I’ve loved working at Queen Ethelburga's and meeting the 10 other GAP’s I will be spending the next twelve months with. I’m really enjoying working with the Year 9 girls: they are a loud and crazy group and there’s always something going on in Abbey 2. I’m very excited to see what the next few months bring from both QE and England.

Ok, I won’t lie! At first I only came to the UK so that I could travel throughout Europe for twelve months. The school was just a place I could live and earn a little bit of extra money! But over the last three months I have really gotten to know the kids in Chapter House, and there is no way I would ever trade working with them! Although it can be a little tedious at times, the memories I have already made are good enough to last a life time! To all who have made my transition to the English lifestyle so easy, thank you!

I am from the Gold Coast, Australia. It is about 600 miles north of Sydney, and is quite the tourist destination. I arrived in the UK on December 16th and although I kind of knew what to expect on my arrival, I was definitely given a shock! My home town has a ton of different beaches and is generally quite hot, rarely dropping below 18 degrees during the day, even in winter! So, on my first day, it was definitely an experience when it started to snow, let alone the following month which included freezing cold temperatures, ice, snow-ball
