fights and snow-men. It is these experiences that are the reason I am doing a GAP Year overseas here at your school. Although I miss my family, friends and occasionally the warmth back home, I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel and experience the other side of the world, and I definitely wouldn’t give that up for anything back home right now.
Marcus Arnold
Hello! My name is Marcus Arnold and I am a new GAP assistant at QEC. I am from the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, so obviously the weather was a bit of a shock when I arrived here on the 1st of January! After several months however I have slowly become used to the cold and rain! I came over here with a few main goals - to travel as much as possible and see as much of Europe as I could, and to grow and mature as an individual; so far I have achieved both. I have already been to Scotland, Switzerland, the Canary Islands and Austria and within the next few weeks I am heading to Egypt, Croatia and Portugal. Travelling has always been a passion of mine, and I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to do so much of it this year. After a bumpy start to the year with delays in the CRB process, I feel that I have settled in nicely and I am thrilled to be working with such a lovely group of students in Chapter House. I would like to take this opportunity to thank QEC for taking me on board, and I look forward to a prosperous year!
Mia Thomas
I come from a country town called Armidale in New South Wales. It’s over 300 miles north of Sydney and 290 miles south of Brisbane. This is my second year in England and I am thoroughly enjoying the experiences that QE has given me within the first few months.
Working with Foundation Stage has opened up a
whole new life experience which I have taken on board as I am thinking that this is a career choice for me. The children are wonderful to work with as well as the staff, which has helped us settle into QE life straight away. I am very much looking forward to the rest of 2010 at Queen Ethelburga’s.
Stephanie Stedman
Hello to all, my name is Stephy Stedman or as some of the other gaps might say 'bogan'. I am originally from the sunshine state of Queensland Australia living in a lovely town called Toowoomba! Coming over to England was a life long dream of mine that I have always wanted to fulfill and this year I finally picked up enough courage to leave my friends, family and the sun behind to venture off to one of the coldest and wettest countries to experience the joys and wonders of Queen Ethelburga's College. My time here so far has been beyond enjoyable and some what overwhelming at the same time. Since I have arrived at QE I have met some truly amazing people, travelled to some beautiful scenic places and I have grown more independently as a person. Coming on this gap year has definitely been one of the best decisions I have made in my life as I know I will be taking home with me friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

G’day to the QE community. Being a country bumpkin from Outback Queensland Australia, who has never left Australian waters; travelling half way around the world has been an exciting adventure for me. Maybe because I had
