Once again this year the boys were invited to compete in the Woodhouse Grove 10’s tournament. Competing against 5 schools the boys showed that rugby at QE is progressing, managing 3 wins and a thrilling 10 – 10 draw against Ashville. This gave the boys at second place finish, and showed their competitors that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The under 13’s received an invitation to Silcoates School 12 a side tournament. After a loss to Silcoates in their first game, the team showed their true ability and some good determination to beat Hipperholme in their next game, a team which they had lost to earlier on in the season. Again this showed that the team are progressing and learning from each and getting better as a consequence.
The last action of the season came with a trip down to Rosslyn Park 7’s. The squad travelled down to London full of excitement and anticipation as to what their first Rugby tour would have in store. In their new tight fit shirts the team got off to a great start against Torquay School, running in several tries. Unfortunately they failed to close out the game, losing by a conversion. Next up were Boost School, and QE again scored several outstanding tries winning the game comfortably. In their final game against Durham, the team were beaten by an experienced school, with a strong rugby pedigree. The tour was a huge success and I hope it gave the boys a taste for touring as a rugby team in the future.
Its been a positive season for the boys, with many stand out performers in particular, Raffen Cherrington, Todd Johnson, Adam Barrass, Luca Peterson, Patrick Lawton, Ewan Lawton and Falemaka Vave. Along with the support shown form the rest of the squad, this group of boys can be very proud of themselves for what they have achieved.
I hope they continue with their faultless attitude towards training, and I am sure they are already looking forward to next season.
