their applications. All in all, the vast majority of students in Year 13 have received offers from very good universities within the field that they are applying for, and our congratulations go to all of them. We look forward to sharing their success with them in the summer.

Extra curricular activities have played a large part in the life of the sixth form this year. Increasing numbers of students have taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, at Gold and Silver levels, and our new Head of Equestrian, Shirley Bold, has joined us with lots of enthusiasm and ideas for new events. Activities in music, sport, drama, art, cookery, and community service continue to grow in popularity and success. Special mention must go to the students taking part in the Bank of England Challenge, the Maths Challenge and the Young Enterprise Scheme, all of which have achieved notable successes described elsewhere in this magazine.

Special thanks must go to the outgoing prefect team. This year’s prefects have been exceptional in their enthusiasm and their contribution to school life. They have developed a healthy competitive spirit when organising and taking part in the many house events, but have shown an equal ability to work well together when it counts. From their unofficial base in the school library, they have co-ordinated their support for open days, assemblies, house events, school events, lunch duties, break duties, prep duties, induction week, and social events. These efforts often go unnoticed but are always appreciated and highly valued. We will miss this team next year, but not wishing to rest on our laurels, we have already set the challenge to the incoming prefect team to try and better their achievements. So far they are responding well!

The sixth form tutor team and house parent team continues to evolve, and they have responded well to the growth in numbers and the increased demands made on their time. Thanks go to all of the tutors and to the house staff for their hard work with the students, and we look forward to working with them again in 2010/11. All that remains is for us to wish the sixth form students every success with their summer examinations, particularly the departing Year 13 students, and we hope that the forthcoming year will prove to be enjoyable and fulfilling for everyone.
