lived 800 miles from home at boarding school for the past six years or maybe it was my eagerness to see the world or whether it was just a combination of both. For whatever the reason, from the very first moment that I knew I would be living my next year abroad, never for one moment did I feel scared or hesitant, instead I felt I was finally fulfilling a dream. So away from the sunshine and 40 degree heat I flew and two days later I arrived to the snowy, cold welcome of North Yorkshire. We (the Gaps) may not have had a ‘normal’ start to the year but now that everything is in full swing I love almost every moment. I still remember our first tour around the campus. I thought to myself, “Wow, this is actually a school?” My placement with the 7/8 girls couldn’t have been a more perfect match. They are a truly amazing group of girls and I couldn’t have asked for better in regard to the house parents. My main ambitions for this year are to travel as much as possible and have the best time I possibly can too.

As I was walking the streets of London on my first day in England, I asked myself why I had come all the way across countries and seas to country where the weather drops into the negatives leaving behind the heavenly sun, family and friends. I thought hard and long about this and realised I had come to Queen Ethelburga’s, because I know this school will provide me with life experiences and knowledge, which will aid me throughout my life. Over the past few months, while working in this school, I have had the opportunity of being exposed to QE’s cordial working and living environment and have realised this will be a great place for me to excel throughout the year. The school is everything I expected and more (as this school is no ordinary school) and I know I will enjoy my new home at QE this year amongst the friendly and loving students and staff.
