Headmasters Foreword It is impossible to sum up the entirety of the achievement in a place like Queen Ethelburga’s in one publi- cation, but certainly this magazine will help you to gain a flavour of a year in its life. I do hope that you enjoy reading the Ethelburgian and see a little of what contributes to making our students the bright, confi- dent and responsible people that they become. British boarding schools value academic accomplishment and are amongst the best institutions in the world for promoting this aspiration. However, we also believe in the education of the whole person and, conse- quently, the sport, music, drama and vast array of other activities form a rich tapestry that form the charac- ters of thinking and balanced individuals. If all of this sounds rather worthy, there is the need to add the ingredients of fun and enjoyment; qualities that spring out of these pages. If all of the above can be combined, a recipe for a fulfilling and happy life can follow. This is what we hope to engender and I hope that you enjoy reading about the many ways in which we go about this.
