Autumn Term 09


It was a long term and a very busy one with a variety of activities on offer which the students thoroughly enjoyed. The weather was unseasonably warm although the weather forecasters were promising snow just in time for everyone to travel at the end of the last week.


Work began on the ground floor of Abbey Chambers this term as the first part of the refurbishment programme for the building. The Ground floor of 1st wing was completely gutted and a new floor laid, with work continuing over the academic year. The new rooms will be en suite and of a similar standard to Benedict House. In order for this work to be done there was some moving around for Chapter House boarders and the year 9 girls, but it will all have been worth it to be able to have the accommodation upgraded. The top floor of the Medical Centre was converted into boarding accommodation which Chapter House moved into. The year 9 girls moved up to the top floor of Abbey 2nd wing into single rooms temporarily, which they have all loved immensely.


The first weekend of term was a busy one with a BBQ laid on by Mrs and Mrs Martin in their garden and it was an enjoyable evening for all the students. Live music, good food, face painting and bouncy castles kept all entertained from the youngest right up to the oldest in the 6th form. Then on the Sunday we took the whole of the boarding community of QE to Alton Towers which was a huge success. The students behaved impeccably and all who went had a whale of a time including the staff who had to be persuaded to go! It was certainly a good opportunity to get to know each other. Chapter house were not left out as they went to Lightwater Valley on the Sunday.
