I’m struggling to believe I have to sum up my time at QE. After joining half way through year 9 I have nothing but good memories. I still think back on Year 10 and 11 and laugh at everything we got up to, like water fights in summer on the fields, and staying late after school finished with friends, even though I could go home at 4:15; and all this happening whilst still managing to get good GCSE results. When thinking back on my two years in the sixth form, although they have been hard work, they have been unforgettable.

The prospect of starting a new life without school is

exciting, but I know that speech day will be filled with tears. This is due to the amazing friends I have made during my time here, and saying goodbye to teachers that have helped me all the way through my education. I know as soon as I have left, I will be back when I get the opportunity.

At the start of sixth form, I was asked to become joint Head of Derwent House, this has been a challenge with the extra work load and house competitions, but ultimately rewarding and has really helped me mature. My co-captain has not only been an unbelievable help, but also a great friend, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ellie, and say that I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Also, thank you to our prefect leader, Mr Machin, he had his work cut out with us! I wish good luck to the future heads of house, and all the other prefects, and I’m sure they will do well in their new positions. This time of year has come around so fast, that I say to the younger students, and in particular Year 12, that you should make the most of your time here! There really is nowhere like QE Rosie Challis-Mercer, Joint Head of Derwent

So, it’s that time already! I’ve never been good with words so I’ll keep this short and sweet. When I joined in Year 9 I didn’t really want to change schools, in fact I cried when I tried the uniform on for the first time, yet now it’s almost time to say goodbye and I know I’ll really miss this place. I have to say that I’ve had some amazing memories due to this school, whether it be spending lunchtimes just talking about nothing on the fields, working hard in the library, or the many eventful socials. I know I’ll miss all of this when it comes to finding my own way in life, it’s almost a scary thought thinking I’ll be taking charge of what I do everyday. Who knows where I’ll end up!

In the middle of Year 12 I was chosen to be a joint Head of Derwent House (GO GREEN!) with my partner in crime, Rosy. We still haven’t completely figured out if this was the best idea ever or the worst, but as far as I see it now, it couldn’t have been a better decision. I’ve known her since Year 9 and I’ll know her until I’m 109. Good luck to the new Heads of House, I hope you have as much fun as we have had! I need to say thank you to all my other friends too, you’ve all been so amazing and I’ve pretty much grown up with you all. Finally, a quick thank you to Mr. Machin, King of the Prefects, and the Fashion department for helping me achieve exactly what I set out to do.

Good luck!

Eleanor Hawkesworth, Joint Head of Derwent 31
