This paper defines Marine Design as an holistic user focussed approach to vessel
design, which is infancy within the marine industry. The in its potential
industry issues that it could address and the financial benefits are reviewed. The Marine Design manifesto is presented and contextualised as a framework for innovation to help the European Marine Industry maintain a competitive edge in challenging International markets.
