Styling issues and layouts of catamarans are greatly affected by nature of multihull craft and the layout of catamaran is often designed ‘around tunnel’. Two major factors that define architecture of catamarans: they are wide and ‘tall’, thus generally more spacious than monohull of comparable size. Sleek-looking catamarans turn out to have insufficient vertical tunnel clearance with poor seakeeping, or lacking interior volumes. Due to high initial stability, the catamarans can acquire higher/bigger superstructures starting from smaller craft length [5].
The process of exterior styling is presented on fig.4 and includes:
Hand sketches of exterior profile are usually made during meeting with customer; few directions are defined unless positive impression of customer if obtained. Al later stages, these sketches are scanned and traced for processing in CAD software. Side profile of the catamaran can be made using both vector analysis approach (used for elongated craft or more utilitarian designs) or focal points approach used in car industry [5].

approximation. At AMD, we use orthogonal paper printouts of preliminary exterior 3D to hand sketch interior layouts to ensure that desirable layout fits and necessary corrections

Important consideration for custom-designed yacht
where the boat is designed for specific customer is what we call aesthetically enduring design. The customer has to wait for his craft delivery and wants to enjoy using it for considerable time, and then yacht should still reserve decent re-sale value - this means that the craft should not get out of fashion. In this case, chosen shapes of H65 close to ‘practicism’ and classics will work very well.

5. LAYOUT
Deck architecture of H65 is epitome of AMD’s philosophy – practical and stylish, really designed for the sea (fig.6). Front deck accommodates spacious sundeck but still allows walk around space and access to bridge deck storage. All anchor equipment is safely located in enclosed compartments – access trough deck hatch. Side decks are conveniently wide, covered by teak; bulwarks all way round add essential feeling of safety. Spacious garbage storage and big deep freezers are located under side decks above engine room.
Tender is covered by aft sundeck moulding – to protect it from rain and direct sunlight, but still keep easily accessible. Aft deck is designed in single level with saloon. Ladder to flybridge is solid and comfortable, and possess convenient slope (to avoid known problem on some boats with running trim); space under ladder is used as hanging locker for diving equipment.
