Identify the types of slope between each of the following places:
B C
(i) A and B (ii) B and C (iii) A and C (iv) C and D
Cross-Sections A
Cross-sections, sometimes called profiles, give us a side view of the landscape. This allows us to see the overall height of the landscape and whether it increases or decreases gradually or suddenly.
Cross-sections can be drawn from the contour lines on an OS map.
1. Name the mountain labelled A on the map. 2. What is the spot height of this mountain? 3. What type of slope is labelled 1 on the cross-section of this map? 4. What man-made feature, labelled 2, is located on the cross-section? 5. What natural feature occurs at the place labelled 3 on the cross-section? 6. What type of vegetation, labelled C on the cross-section, is evident on the map?
