1. Put the numbers of females and males over the total number in the class: 15/24 and 9/24
2. Multiply each fraction by 360 (the number of degrees in a circle) to change the information into degrees:
15/24 x 360/1 = 225° 9/24 x 360/1 = 135°
3. Now use a compass to draw the circle and a protractor to accurately measure the degrees you just worked out
20.6 Bar Charts
Bar charts display information using bars of different heights and are suitable for making comparisons. If we use the same example above, the number of females and males in a class, the information would be displayed as follows:
Males and Females in 2B Class
10 12 14 16
0 2 4 6 8
9 Males Gender How to create a bar chart
1. Label the x-axis with the information you wish to display – in this case, gender.
2. Label the y-axis with the numerical information you wish to display and add numbers in multiples as appropriate. In this example, it is the number of males and females.
3. Display your information on the bar chart using different coloured bars.
4. Insert a title. 289 Females 15
