Residents make a stand against proposed quarry
Residents of Carrigtwohill in east Cork have been out in force at a public meeting in the village community
hall to protest
against a planning application by a local company to open a new limestone quarry in the area. The quarry would provide employment to locals and would supply stone and gravel needed for the building industry.
The large attendance was told, however, that the proposed quarry would create air pollution in the form of dust. It would give rise to noise and to heavy truck traffic. It would also create a large, permanent scar on the rural landscape. It was pointed out at the meeting that the area in question was classified in the Cork County development
