Task 5: Measure the permeability of one soil sample You will need

Funnel
Cotton wool
Instructions 1. Choose one soil sample, A, B or C. 2. Plug the funnel (which can be the top of an empty 2-litre drinks bottle) with cotton wool, place into an empty jar, and place the sample soil in the funnel.
3. Fill another jar with 250 ml of water, and then slowly pour this water onto the soil in the funnel.
Using a stopwatch, time how long it takes the water to pass through the soil into the jar. Does all of the water pass through the soil?
4. Record your observations. (Refer to the results table, p. 239.)
