17.1 What is Soil?
Soil is the thin, uppermost layer of the earth. Without soil, plants could not grow and there would be no food for land animals. Therefore, soil is an essential natural resource (created by nature and a useful resource to humans). As well as providing us with food, soil is used for building, farming and much more.
