22.1 Urban Change Urban areas around the world are constantly undergoing
what is referred to as urban change. Urban change is the process whereby cities, towns and other built-up areas change, usually to meet the changing needs of their populations. This process can result in changes to how the urban land is used, to the types of buildings constructed and to the expansion of urban areas.
The growth of both the size and number of urban areas (towns and cities) is sometimes referred to as urbanisation.
