The hugely successful television show Game of Thrones has filmed many scenes around Northern Ireland. Unique areas such as Tollymore Forest Park, Co. Down, and the Shillanavogy Valley beneath the Slemish Mountains, Co. Antrim, have been used as landscapes or backdrops for many of the show’s scenes.
Tourists can now take guided tours through these areas. This increase in tourism as a result of the show has brought huge economic and social benefits to the region, providing employment and bringing money into the local economy.

2. Thinking back to what you learned in Chapter 17, what sort of soil do you think is present in this area?
