Sprayable formulating The shear-thinning nature of the fibrillated cellulose indicates a faster recovery of the original structure when the stress that is applied, has been removed (Figure 7). The rheology profile imparted by fibrillated cellulose can be an important attribute for creating sunscreens in different product formats such as sprayable sunscreens. Sprayable sunscreens are becoming more
popular as they are easy to apply and allow the consumer to top-up the level of sun protection throughout the day, and can even be applied on top of makeup, which increases the chances of people using sunscreen more regularly on a daily basis. In addition, the fibrillated cellulose can be used to create easily spreadable formulations as a result of its shear-thinning nature. In fact, thanks to the fibrillated cellulose, as soon as force is applied, the product will move with ease and once the spreading force has stopped, the viscosity of the formulation will build back immediately thus creating a non-runny, anti-drip product which can give the illusion of a luxurious formulation. In contrast, the fibrillated cellulose can be used in combination with other rheology modifiers such as xanthan gum and tara gum to create more viscous formulations with various
