Harnessing power of mushroom
Extracted from the chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus), native to the Northern Canadian forest, Inolixir is the most recent addition to BASF’s portfolio of bioactive ingredients. With its antioxidant and anti- inflammatory properties, it fortifies the skin’s natural protection system by strengthening barrier function and the microvascular network – working on all fronts to return skin to a healthier condition, with visible results on fine lines, dark-circles and redness.
Sativum (Garlic) Bulb Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Yeast Ferment Extract), but the only difference is that it does not contain glycerin and water. BHC-S is a powder type and ‘non-irritant’ natural sunscreen ingredient which is made of
Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) Root Extract, Ecklonia Kurome Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract. It is an ‘edible’ sunscreen ingredient. BHC-S has an ultraviolet-B blocking effect equivalent to octyl methoxycinnamate.
New data released on lipid complex
Oat Cosmetics, part of Oat Services Ltd, and specialists in high quality natural cosmetic ingredients, has released comprehensive new data relating to its active lipid complex, AvenaPLex. An already strong data pack has been enhanced with the addition of a Cutaneous Skin Hydration Study, Consumer Perception Study and 28-Day Comedogenicity Study. Key conclusions from the studies show that AvenaPLex:
significantly increases skin hydration after 28 days; increases the production of the skin’s natural moisturising factors; is non- comedogenic; reduces the number of micro cysts, blackheads, papules and pustules over a 28-day period; left 91% of users feeling their skin was more hydrated, 86% stating that they had softer skin, 82% agreeing that their skin’s texture was improved and 77% stating their skin felt more radiant; scored an overall skin improvement performance rating by users of 82%.
PERSONAL CARE ASIA PACIFIC
When asked about the significance of the new research, Cara Dewis, head of Research and Development at Oat Cosmetics replied: “This is really strong data – despite the cohort for these studies having oily skin, as determined by a dermatologist, and the fact that AvenaPLex is anhydrous, skin hydration was significantly improved after 28 days. In one participant, the hydration improvement was a staggering 26%.”
The chaga mushroom is a superfood renowned for various health benefits and has both traditional and modern uses. With Inolixir (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (and) Inonotus Obliquus (Mushroom) Extract), BASF scientists have now harnessed the chaga mushroom’s power for use in skin care products, catering to the worldwide consumer trend of changing perceptions of beauty and the increasing popularity of a more holistic approach. This often involves consumers making lifestyle changes and, looking for natural ingredients. Inolixir works in two ways:
firstly, it offers a wellness approach proven to be effective on tired and stressed skin. Study participants reported that Inolixir was as effective as a five-day relaxation cure in mitigating fatigue lines, dark circles and dullness. Secondly, the bioactive ingredient presents dermocosmetic solutions for sensitive skin: it offers anti- redness and anti-dullness benefits, leading 85% of study participants to perceive a health benefit for their skin and 91% to report increased skin comfort within 7 to 28 days of application.
