In compliance with regulatory controls

set out by GPEB and FINTRAC,

Tis was something that people in the self-exclusion programme said would help them honour their commitment to take a break from gambling – and represents just one of the various tools we offer as part of our commitment to player health.

How important is supporting communities and giving back to British Columbians? What provincial programmes and charities does BCLC back?

In 2022/23, thanks to our players, BCLC generated $1.6bn in net income for the Province of B.C., which the Province uses to support important programmes, such as health care, education and community services.

BCLC’s social purpose is to generate win-wins for the greater good – not only by how we conduct our business, but how we share our learnings with other organisations so we can encourage one another to be forces for positive change. Our social purpose asks us to consider how we might create additional value for employees, partners, communities and our players.

Last year, the Province of B.C. allocated more than $140m to not- for-profit organisations through the Community Gaming Grants

programme. Additionally, Host Local Governments receive 10 per cent of the net income generated from gaming facilities in their community every year.

Tese funds support priorities such as housing, city services, infrastructure and safety and security. Seven per cent of BCLC’s net income is also distributed to First Nations governments through the BC First Nations Gaming Revenue Sharing Limited Partnership.

How are the requirements and resources needed for thorough AML and KYC changing, and what is BCLC doing to ensure it is at the forefront of safeguarding casinos and players?

BCLC is continuously enhancing its anti-money laundering programmes to improve our ability to know our players and reduce the potential for risk in our casinos. In addition to the specific obligations that BCLC must fulfil for FINTRAC, we work in lockstep with our regulator, GPEB, to keep up with the evolving requirements to know our players.

Currently, everyone entering a B.C. casino is required to show government-issued photo

identification, regardless of whether they are there to play or not.

We recently introduced a new enhancement that requires all casinos to verify the identity of players when they reach $3,000 or more in buy-in transactions or disbursements in a single day. Tis change in process at the $3,000 threshold enables us to better know our players and reduce the potential for risk in B.C. casinos.

Tis allows us to have full oversight into who our players are online. More recently, PlayNow incorporated a biometrics component to the existing registration process, where players registering for a PlayNow account can now upload a selfie photo to assist with identity verification.

What is the remit of BCLC's investigations and cyber security teams, respectively?

BCLC’s cyber security team is committed to protecting our systems, services and data against unauthorised use, disclosure, modification, damage and loss by maintaining an information security programme that is based on industry best practice. Maintaining and continually improving our information security programmes helps support the core objectives of our business.
