BRAZIL LEADERS PANEL SBC SUMMIT
It's actually quite surprising that we haven't witnessed more mergers and acquisitions yet, but I assume that a lot is happening behind the
scenes. With the regulatory framework taking shape, I expect we'll see significant movements in this area soon. The regulatory environment is structured in such a way that it favours operators with robust financial backing and operational capacity. Andreas Bardun
Some of our strongest competitors have adopted a more national approach and have seen incredible results. Tis just goes to show that Brazil's market is so vast and diverse that there are many ways to achieve success. However, I believe that all successful companies would agree that having boots on the ground is crucial.
What are your thoughts on the regulations being imposed? Will high regulatory costs drive an M&A boom for Brazil's sports betting market?
Andreas: Te Brazilian market is heading towards consolidation primarily because not many operators can shoulder the hefty licensing fees and the operational costs involved. Brazil presents a particularly complex landscape for business operations, demanding significant resources and strategic planning to navigate successfully.
It's actually quite surprising that we haven't witnessed more mergers and acquisitions yet, but I assume that a lot is happening behind the scenes. With the regulatory framework taking shape, I expect we'll see significant movements in this area soon. Te regulatory environment is structured in such a way that it favours operators with robust financial backing and operational capacity.
Given these circumstances, I don't anticipate more than 30 to 40 operators will be able to sustain operations in Brazil effectively. Te regulatory barriers are set high, which naturally limits the playing field to those who are not only financially capable but also strategically prepared to meet the complex demands of the Brazilian market.
Livia: Te new regulations imposed on the Brazilian sports betting market are a significant step forward, bringing much-needed structure and credibility to the industry. In terms of
regulatory costs, there are two perspectives:
Opportunity for consolidation: High costs may drive industry consolidation, leading to mergers and acquisitions.
Challenge for smaller operators: Te same costs pose a significant challenge to smaller operators, who drive much of the innovation in the market.
However, as the market reorganises, this reconfiguration could create opportunities for growth and segmentation. We may see an expansion of specialised segments within the industry. Lower-volume, higher-margin firms may combine with larger firms to represent their margins in advantageous ways.
At Betmais, we specialise in serving high-value (tkt) players, providing security, exceptional customer care and a more sophisticated experience. Tis focus allows us to serve this value segment of the market, which aligns well with larger operators looking to enhance their offerings with specialised expertise.
In conclusion, while regulatory costs are high, they may act as a catalyst for positive change and market transformation. Tey will drive the industry towards greater professionalism and reliability, benefiting both operators and consumers.
Alexandre: In general terms I’m positively sur- prised by the regulation and also relieved after some very sensitive topics have been excluded such as player taxation to be withheld by the op- erator.
Regarding a possible M&A boom in Brazil, there will be some but not really sure if its going to be a massive thing and the ones will happen will be more driven by the need of a better and more scalable technology and business expertise than the regulatory cost itself.
