4.5 MOTHERSHIP EXTERIOR DESIGN AND GA
The key aspect of the mothership is to engage the owner and guest in the spectacularisation
of the Vertical
Superyacht Tender emerging from the fore deck garage and the DNA connection between the vessel and the helicopter. The superyacht
is the residence of the
property developer client, and also a venue for him to entertain his clients, who can be collected for business meetings on the yacht using the SVT. The initial sketch development of the exterior is shown in Figure 28, with the visual references to automotive design language. The visual language development plays with the juxtaposition of the superstructure visual mass and a chine on the hull acts as a visual balance to the superstructure.
The final exterior development is shown in Figure 29, where the hull chine feature and colour break leads the eye from the transom to the peak of the shear line which aligns with a set of three portholes. This is the focal point of the exterior, where the Superyacht Vertical Tender gracefully emerges from the fore deck garage. The sleek and dynamic exterior form of the superyacht mothership, is an engagement in automotive styling to develop a connection with the SVT.

The detail of the sundeck area with the canopy ghosted out is shown in Figure 31. Where the swimming pool and sun bathing area at the fore deck leads to the bar and jacuzzi under the canopy followed by the deck chair area on the aft deck. While this was the chosen solution, two other proposals for the deck are shown. The operation of the fore deck SVT storage area is shown in the bottom

The exterior render of the superyacht mothership is shown in Figure 30, with the colour break and chine on the upper hull emphasising the dynamic surface form of the upper rear hull.
