Review ICE TOTALLY GAMING 2015 AN INSTANT HIT
ACROSS EUROPE Taking place in the blink of an eye, the instant switching of games on Konami’s multi-game, SeleXion, is proving to be a massive hit with European players
Looking at the Konami Gaming booth at ICE 2015 it was immediately obvious that the company has intensified its development focus on international markets. Every aspect of the product offer in London was dedicated to specific markets, adjustable to the height and space requirement of international locations, and game-centric to give the widest variety of content possible for every type of player.
The SeleXion is perhaps the biggest clue to Konami’s international intentions. “We knew the importance of a multi-game in international markets,” underlined Konami’s Steve Walther at ICE. “The platform had to be flexible and fast, instantaneously presenting each game to the player without loading times, without lag. We knew that we couldn’t offer a Me-Too product to market, but instead define the points of difference between a Konami product and the competition. We listened to the market, to the operators and our distributors to create the SeleXion and now we’re hearing feedback from the market that we’ve created exactly the product they wanted.”
Konami’s SeleXion multi-game has become the company’s number one product across Europe, driven by the ability to offer players up to 10 games that can be instantaneously accessed from the menu screen. Loading and switching between games, denominations and languages on the fly is a stand-out feature of the SeleXion, with Konami even contextualising the button panel so that it switches in an instant to match the game selection on screen. At ICE 2015, Konami showcased both its upright and slant SeleXion machines, each with unique game packages, for Spain, Sweden, Holland, Switzerland and other specific configurations by jurisdiction.
“When dealing with constrained floor space, player convenience and maximum flexibility are premium considerations for operators,” stated Mr. Walther. “The ability of the SeleXion to deliver exactly the right game in an instance, switching languages, denominations and button configurations, all with an ever-increasing array of available KP3 themes for operators to add to their SeleXion game libraries, has proved to be an

‘instant’ hit in European markets.”
Konami’s 2015 exhibit featured the latest games including the ICE debut of Snow Stars White Winter and Rapid Revolver Northern Treasure, both of which are approaching international release. Konami’s Rapid Revolver is a must-have for operators in markets abroad. In lieu of the upper LCD screen, Rapid Revolver takes a unique spin on classic mechanical reels by mounting six stacked and vertically-mounted drums on its oversized top box, surrounded by synchronised high-impact sound and lighting.
“Rapid Revolver has the same form factor as the Podium Monument, but utilises six cyclonic reels on the top that interact with the video screens down below. It’s a hybrid real spinning video game,” described Mr. Walther. “The reels spin horizontally not vertically, which has been a big hit with players in Australia and Asia to date,
with the next roll-out in both the US and Europe.”
Designed to stand out on a casino floor and grab the attention of casino guests, Rapid Revolver presents two distinct gaming concepts fused into one by combining traditional video reel on the lower screen with spinning reels up top. The game’s elegantly-designed international debut themes are Rising Dragon and Northern Treasure. Both garnered strong attention at this year’s show for a wild, immersive display of play mechanics.
Konami’s Podium Monument cabinet includes a standard Podium base, but is enhanced with an oversized top box, complete with a vertically- mounted 32” monitor and internally-lit bezel for greater attraction and entertainment. It is available with and without the topper for locations restricted by low ceilings.
Snow Stars: White Winter, available in 30 and 40-line fixed configurations, is Konami’s first custom title for international markets on the Monument cabinet. This game boasts a two-level standalone progressive bonus feature that allows players to select one of three skiers representing more free games, more wilds, or more multipliers, who then race off and launch off a gigantic ski jump to land on a corresponding award amount. Operators will appreciate how it leverages the cabinet’s extra-tall 32ins. screen. If you’ve ever played Konami’s Nagano Winter Olympics ’98, then you’re in for a treat.
