NEW ERA IN CASINO SECURITY AND CONVENIENCE
Cash and tickets used directly at live gaming tables - all fully electronic - means the casino requires no cash desk
The opening of the first Merkur Casino in Leuna, Saxony- Anhalt, has hailed a new technical rev- olution for casino cash management. The Gauselmann Group has yet again demonstrated its flair for innovation in this bold and excellent- ly managed move to change how casinos are operated.
The revolution has arrived: playing with ticket and cash has been extended to live gaming. The cash desk is no longer required and indeed there is no cash desk at Merkur Casino in Leuna.
All live gaming tables have an in-built unit com- prising of bill validator, ticket printer and touch- screen display. The croupier accepts cash and tickets directly at the live gaming table to exchange these for jetons directly at the table. When players wish to cash-out jetons, the pro- cedure is simple – the croupier prints a ticket for the value of the jetons. The player can use the ticket wherever he or she wishes – on another live gaming table, on electronic roulette or on the slots.
This is a massive boast in player convenience, player freedom and play flexibility. A ticket from a slot machine can be taken directly to the live gaming table and vice versa. This bypasses the cash desk – there is no need for a cash desk – and Merkur Casino in Leuna has no cash desk!

tation. Traditionally players buy and cash out jetons at the cash desk – so many jetons are not at the table – at Casino Merkur they all remain at the live gaming tables all the time.
“I have witnessed how
naturally players have taken to this. Players can move
freely between slots and live gaming. They no longer have to queue at a cash desk.”
Karl-Heinz Lager and Frank Ziegler of Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt
Tickets can be exchanged for cash at the HESS Scorpion machine.
The benefits for Merkur Casino as operator are fundamental: Every point of gaming – thus slot machines, electronic roulette and live gaming – is connected to the casino system. Every cent is accounted for in the entire casino. The drop con- tent in the live gaming tables is available on all tables in real time. Jetons remain at the table. The result is that Merkur Casino requires less than half of the jetons thanks to this implemen-
The driving force for the introduction of this cash management revolution at Merkur Casino has been Mr. Frank Ziegler (Managing Director) and Mr. Karl-Heinz Lager (Head of IT and Security). Both Mr. Ziegler and Mr. Lager are international casino veterans with exemplary vision on casino management.
“This is a revolution for our industry. This her- alds a new era in live gaming and an immense leap in casino security and player convenience. Our customers have immediately accepted this. I can say this with great confidence as we had a soft opening four weeks ago. I have witnessed at first hand how naturally players have taken to this and received much positive feedback. Players can move freely between slots and live gaming. They no longer have to queue at a cash desk,” explained Mr. Ziegler with pride.
