Interactive FUTURE OF CASINO DEALING
Is online Live Casino and retail just ‘same difference’?
G3 speaks to Ezugi COO, Anton Bargel about the differences in online and retail dealing
Is online/land-based dealing currently a life-long career option - or something that’s short-term, fast turnover?
For online based dealers it is mostly a short-term job (80 per cent stay no longer than two years) because of the way lower training requirements and flexible schedules, a lot of students are select- ing this opportunity as a temporary job.
Does online have the same career ladder as land- based? What are the current prospects for promo- tion in land-based and online - will we see dealers rise to senior level ranks as in the past and crossover both into online and land-based?
Online is more about moving to an analytical or support career than advancing as a dealer. Actually there are only three basic levels in pure- gaming floor career in online: dealer → supervisors assistant → supervisor, however the abilities to grow in related fields such as fraud and risk con- trol, analytics, support and marketing are way wider than in land-based.
Could you briefly describe your dealer training programme - in terms of suitable candidates, duration, pass-fail, qualifications and calibre at completion?
A dealer training program is designed for approxi- mately two week periods and covers all the game rules and system interaction and procedures.
The first centralised requirement for all the deal- ers is fluency in the operational language and high sense of responsibility.
The rest of requirements and recruiting proce- dures are region and facility dependent.
Is training different for the land-based and online sectors? Are the skills interchangeable?
First of all, online presentation requires a bit of a different personality and behaviour of the dealer,
1 0 2
more like an “actor” feeling comfortably in front of the camera, speaking and interacting.
The training itself is also different as in online there is no interaction with real players and chips, no necessity in calculating the winning amounts and game process is guided by the system, how- ever knowledge of the system functionalities and ability to communicate using electronic tools.
The land-based trained dealers have an advan- tage when entering the online space however the advantage is minimal as every online operation has its own specifics and system requirements. Due to missing experience in working with chips and winning data, the online croupiers are mostly not capable of switching to land-based business without extra training.
Are certain types of people more suited to dealing online, and others land-based, or is it all the same?
It is mostly the same; however online has higher request to the person’s outlook and presentation skills.
The initial demand was mostly for female dealers in online, but now we see the move to male deal- ers, which show today’s players want more pro- fessional dealing.
The other important parts are languages so that the dealer is capable to interact, as in the online space more localisation is needed so knowing more languages provides an advantage.
What’s the weighting of technical versus personal skills for today’s dealer - and is it the same for land-based as it is online?
The level is pretty much 50/50 and it is quite rele- vant for both.
