SBEC TO OPEN A CASINO IN VANNES
The green-light has been given to create a new €10m casino in the commune of Vannes on the Brittany coast, France France - New licences
The French Interior Ministry has given the green light for the opening of a new casino on the Morbihanaise coast in Vannes with SBEC, the Breton casino operating company, receiving approval to develop the region’s sixth license.
The €10m casino is expected to open in 2017 in the region’s Gulf Park, although a temporary casino will open in the summer in a former concert hall.
The final casino will be built on stilts over three levels, with a green roof terrace. The public will access through a lobby forming an atrium with an airlock giving access to a ventilated car park. The first floor will house 120 slot machines with five table games. The second floor will be devoted to multipurpose facility with a capacity for 200 peo- ple along with a 50 seat restaurant and a café- brasserie for 80 people. The aim is to attract 80,000 visitors per year.
SBEC will operate the casino for 20 years at an annual rent to the city and the building will revert to the municipality. The city is expected to pocket nearly €800,000 per year under the levy. The temporary casino will house 75 slot machines and is expected to take just four months to develop.
Whilst nearby business owners are delighted, existing casino operators in the region believe the local area has already reached saturation point.
Denis Konnert, owner of the nearby aquarium and Spokesperson for Gulf Park, said: “It’s good for the aquarium, the Bay Park and Vannes. This will strengthen the park’s tourism division. The casino will bring additional customers. The aquarium will be very close to the casino and there will surely be a synergy.”
Arnaud Jalaber, Director of the Crouesty casino, disagreed, saying: “This is not good news for us as 20 to 30 per cent of our clientele comes from Vannes. For six casinos to remain on the Morbihan coast will not be easy. We’ll have to adapt our business strategy knowing that we have competi- tion from casinos in La Baule and Pornichet.”
The 90 km strip of coastline will have casinos in Larmor-Plage, Quiberon, La Trinité-sur-Mer, Carnac, Vannes and Arzon.
Sweden Machine component manufacturer Suzo-Happ is raising €185m of leveraged loans to back its acquisition of Swedish peer Scan Coin and refinance existing debt. US private equity firm Acon acquired Suzo-Happ in 2012. With the acquisition of Scan Coin, Suzo-Happ will grow its European presence. Proceeds will back the buyout and refinance €85m-equivalent of existing debt held between both companies. The financing comprises a €165m, six-year term loan and a €20m five-year revolving credit facility. Pricing will emerge shortly. US-headquartered Suzo-Happ supplies components for coin operated devices in sectors including gaming, retail and transportation. Scan Coin manufactures and supplies change machines and other cash handling equipment.
