theibcdaily ‘Design is soul’ ruwido By Ian McMurray

ruwido has been honoured twice with the world’s most famous design award. In the

‘red dot award: product design’ category, the certificate has been awarded to the consistent design solutions ‘tau’ and ‘aura’ by a 30-member expert jury. Each comprises a set-top box and remote control. ruwido’s

consistent design solutions were among 4,515 entries from creative heads and manufacturers from all over the world.

“Design is soul,” said

Ferdinand Maier, CEO of ruwido austria. “That’s our state of mind and that’s what we try to convey through all our products. We would like to eliminate the

design gap between the TV set, set-top box and remote control. TV and audio device manufacturers invest in state of the art designs but the ‘carriers’ of technology and enabler of services – the set-top box and remote control – are still some distance away from state of the art in terms of design and overall appearance.” 1.F68

Products with creative function Opinion

Successful suppliers will be those with balanced portfolio and strong worldwide presence says Chris Exelby, managing director, TSL Professional Products

Chris Exelby: ‘We’ve focused our resources’

The broadcast sector is potentially confronted with a ‘perfect storm’ in terms of a reduction in investment funds available from public broadcasters. Private broadcasters are seeing reductions in advertising revenue as budgets are spread across new platforms. In a market that is undergoing fundamental technical changes as it continues to move into multi format playout, many suppliers are faced with falling revenues and profits and are finding it difficult to source new funding from weary investors or the banks. Successful suppliers will be those that have an updated and balanced portfolio coupled with a strong worldwide presence. Recognising this trend, TSL

Professional Products has turned its attention to those

products that are part of the creative function. This is because the need for good quality content will never diminish. In terms of presence we have worked hard to build sales in every territory so that our business is balanced against the disparate economies. We’ve focused our resources on developing complete solutions that effectively simplify the jobs of operators so that less technically savvy personnel can maintain and improve uptime and concentrate on making great programmes.

At IBC, we’ll be demoing our

new TallyMan VP (virtual panel) with touchscreen which makes the traditionally complicated task of re-formatting studios/Tallies/UMDs a lot easier, whilst removing the need for vendor-specific

router/multiviewer panels to offer universal equipment control.

Our new Touchmix Pilot is designed to empower creative operators, giving directors, producers, VT operators, journalists and such like, instant access to audio by simply touching a bargraph the channel/s they wish to hear, mix, level-adjust or route. We’re also placing high- quality metering within reach of anyone involved in sound production, from operators working throughout broadcast chain to music studio technicians and record producers, with our simple to use and easy to configure, PAM PiCo Audio and Loudness Meter.

And, as a response to customer feedback across the industry, we’re also launching a new VIP line of vertical power management products. It addresses the installation process, cutting down on the man hours necessary to build a rack of equipment and because it mounts vertically at the back of the rack, valuable space is opened up and re-cabling much simpler.

server-based control software, PsiMon, which through its dashboard GUI, maximises uptime by identify the source of a problem more quickly; save costs on hiring expensive engineering staff at each location to manually manage power, instead managing all power via a network from a central location; and saves power, not only reducing power costs, but also the carbon footprint. Broadcasters are also looking to generate more revenue to match the demands of the modern viewer through adopting Dolby surround and Dolby E technology. Our audio product ranges, including Touchmix and PAM2 precision audio monitoring solutions, provide the means to ensure the quality of this new technology is up to scratch. 10.B41
