We will display the entire 3D TV chain from live shooting to home reception at IBC2012 explains Davide Ferri, business & development manager, Sisvel Technology
Since Sisvel Technology’s interest is to meet content producers, TV/set top box manufacturers and service providers, attending IBC gives us a great chance to meet and discuss with all of them and to explain our technology. Cropping Window: Cropping
refers to removing unwanted areas from videos or pictures. This feature can be very useful in isolating the portion of the original image which carries the most significant information or has the best visual effect. In fact, cropping allows changing from one aspect ratio to another, without stretching the original image. Accordingly, by applying the cropping window, it is possible to focus on a specific area of the picture while discarding the rest. The ‘Cropping Rectangle’ is one of the parameters included in the H.264 Sequence Parameter Set. The
consists of storing two 720p pictures in a single full HD 1080p frame. The Cropping Window is one of the innovative features of the Tile Format technology. This relates to techniques for video data transmission and can be applied on any television platform. Currently in Italy there are two

purpose was to insure the backwards compatibility with existing 2D video apparatus, especially during the transition phase of TV services. In other words, the cropping window is
a method for transforming a frame compatible 3D picture into a 2D service compatible picture. 3D Tile Format: This is a frame compatible format that
broadcasters running 3D trials (Tile Format and 2D service compatibility within 3DTV) over DVB-T infrastructure. There is also a DVB-S trial service, ‘3D Tile Format’ and it can be watched all over Europe from SES satellite (19.2°). Several DVB and IP 3D service providers worldwide are negotiating for the introduction of 3DTV transmission using Tile Format. Listed below is a short description of products capable of decoding the Tile Format as well as the major hardware makers supporting the ‘tiling’ technology: VESTEL is a leading
European TV set manufacturer and partner of Sisvel Technology within the 3DT project. The Tile Format decoding has already been implemented in some TV models.
ANTIK Technology is a
European STB manufacturer that collaborates with Sisvel Technology. Its high-end products guarantee the support of Tile Format for 3D signal reception on hybrid DVB – IP platforms. STMicroelectronics offers a range of microcontrollers sufficiently powerful to execute the decoding of the backwards compatible 3D Tile Format.
Opinion Sisvel Technology was able to
create the 3DVillage consortia in which members could have syndicated access to a library of high-quality stereoscopic 3D videos. The purpose is to share 3D content among owners/producers and to encourage them to possibly broadcast them. Spreading 3D content around the world is a way to increase the visibility of the project and to shake up the whole 3D industry. 3DVillage has collected about 50-60 hours of 3D contents and can be viewed at www.3dt.it. 5.A17
