theibcdaily Nexio Farad implements Raid-601 Harris By Dick Hobbs
A new version of the Harris Nexio Farad online storage system implements Raid-601 protection, which in turn allows the company to add
Intrinsic Mirroring. Managing mirrored storage of content assets is normally an overhead on the automation or asset management system, but with Intrinsic Mirroring full background mirroring is built into the file system. The new functionality allows
the Nexio Farad to switch between main and backup storage, even when they are in different locations. This high resilience storage is available in configurations from 8TB to half a petabyte, covering virtually all broadcast requirements. The new
version also benefits from the latest disk technology developed in the IT world. As well as increasing storage capacity and density, in Farad it delivers a 50% improvement in bandwidth and throughput without compromising broadcast performance for applications including editing in place. 7.G20

Has IBC come at a good time for the electronic media industry? Why? Yes, today’s economic conditions demand that broadcasters and service providers provide better programming for more channels, and that they deliver this content to more screens without increasing the time and resources already invested in content creation and delivery. The ongoing need to do more with less presents an opportunity for those vendors whose solutions reduce complexity, increase flexibility, and provide intelligent function integration while delivering excellent video quality.
What do you think are the key developments in, or threats to, your market sector at the current time? To us, the most significant developments in the last year have been around the acceleration of technology to enable viable multiscreen/OTT services. We have seen advancements in the proliferation of connected devices, maturity of multiscreen ecosystems and video delivery infrastructure in general, as well as the aggressive deployment of full-fledged services in many markets, and adoption of nPVR, nDVR, start over and catch up TV.
