Truck tales: SIS Lives fleet is freshly outfitted with Sony cameras SIS Live kits out with Sony Sony By Adrian Pennington
Following a competitive procurement which saw it beat off competition from Ikegami and Grass Valley, Sony is to provide a range of OB equipment to live coverage facilities supplier SIS Live. The deal sees SIS Live equip its 20 strong fleet of HD broadcast trucks with at least
45 Sony HDC-2500 live production and HDC 3300 slow motion cameras. Since the partnership was signed in July, SIS Live has already delivered some of the most high profile events in history using the Sony kit, including the Diamond Jubilee. The agreement establishes Sony as SIS Lives preferred supplier of OB camera technology for the next two years.
SIS Live managing director David Meynell commented: “The agreement with Sony ensures that SIS Live stays at the forefront of technological development and continues to deliver the best possible coverage for our clients across the UK and Europe. We needed to make the
investment in the cameras in July before an incredibly busy summer of live sports and events.” 12.A10
Social TV goes fishing PCI By Heather McLean
ProConsultant Informatique (PCI) is showing its recently launched module within Louise, the company’s business management solution, designed to help broadcasters optimise their content and brands in the growing market of social TV. Louise handles managing rights, assets, and workflows including programme preparation, scheduling and delivery of content to multiple channels in linear and nonlinear environments.
The SocialSeine module works with the MediaBench production tools of Louise, which are designed to make repurposing of content fast and simple for catch up TV, VoD and other non linear platforms. SocialSeine integrates new technology from Mesagraph to provide realtime engagement data on social sites, along with analytics.
“The social TV community is like a big lake, and broadcasters
For the UEFA Championship Draka cable installations were deployed within all of the newly built or upgraded stadia in the host countries. For Donbass Arena, the internal HD infrastructure cabling project management and installation was handled by Prysmian’s Ukraine partner, MacHouse. “The successful Donbass project was a showcase reference for other stadiums,” said Illya Volovich, head of MacHouse broadcast solutions department. Prsysmian delivered 200,000 metres of cable for this project. More than 100,000 metres of premium-quality Draka cabling
of various types was used for a new sports arena built for the Asian Football Confederation in Tashkent. “We use various types of Draka cabling for outside broadcasting vehicles and stadium infrastructures and have always been able to rely on its premium quality,” said Wladislaw Grabowski, CTO/technical director of the integrator, Broadcast Solutions. Draka broadcast cables were widely deployed for the Olympics, together with data communications cables for broadband data transmission, telephone and IP network infrastructure. Draka cables also connected CCTV network and alarm systems. Draka’s Triax HD cables allow
camera crews up to 2km of mobile camera freedom for live broadcasts, while the latest hybrid HD camera cables with BendBright bend-insensitive fibre combine the power of fibre with the ruggedness and reliability of copper. 11.C31
New L-Band matrix
RF-Design By Ian McMurray
Social TV is ‘like a big lake’
are standing on the shore casting bread (content clips and topics) into the water to attract the fish,” said Hervé Obed, founder and CEO at ProConsultant Informatique. “And as the fish come to eat,
we are getting realtime monitoring results thanks to the SocialSeine module. We know what content tidbits the fish are eating and enjoying, which videos are being watched on social TV sites, by whom, how and from where. With this information the broadcaster can
now provide more of the relevant and most interesting content and extend his brand, create buzz, and reach larger audiences.” Channel producers can use MediaBench to create video extracts from live or recorded programming, add graphics or images and publish to multiple platforms. Thanks to the SocialSeine and Mesagraph integration, they now can also improve their videos by selecting the clips that prove to be the most engaging. 2.B21
Manufacturer of RF distribution solutions designed for the international satellite-, broadcast-and broadband communications industry, RF-Design recently launched a new L-Band switch matrix system, on show at IBC today. The FlexLink K3 features what the company describes as a professional, flexible and high performance switch matrix system designed as a modular type 6RU/19- inch master/slave chassis. Both the master and slave chassis have a maximum input/output capacity of 64:64, allowing for flexible routing configurations with upgrades possible to, for example, 256:256 inputs/outputs. According to the company, the new system allows flexible and interruption-free switching and assignment of L-Band signals to or from interconnected devices while any input can be
routed to any or all outputs. The system is, says RF- Design, specially designed not only for today’s but also for tomorrow’s signal management requirements and provides maximum flexibility in a space-, cost- and energy-efficient routing solution.
The modular
router/switch modules provide cascadable in- and output ports and allow the system to be upgraded or expanded at any time – even during operation – as it features swappable boards and modules. The FlexLink K3 can be assembled from a small matrix to a large matrix system simply by the insertion of additional input/output switch-boards and input/output modules. To allow hot-swappable expansion, both the master and slave chassis are equipped with front and rear panels that can be opened to the side for direct access to the system. Additionally, the FlexLink K3 system is available with either 50Ohm, 75Ohm or optical input interfaces. 1.F51
