Inolex has unveiled a new branding campaign to support its global expansion. The new branding reflects the company’s multi-million dollar investment in cosmetic technologies that are natural, sustainable, and meet the most pressing consumer needs.


“Inolex has risen rapidly to the forefront of ingredient innovation, and our new brand reflects that,” said Conrad Plimpton, chairman of Inolex. “It represents our forward-thinking approach to formulating with naturals and to


helping our clients stay on top of the important consumer and regulatory trends.” The latest results of Inolex’s innovation programme will be seen with the launch of a range of natural silicone alternatives, the LexFeel N-Series, at the in-cosmetics show in April, 2012. The lightest fluid in the range, LexFeel N5, has a sensory profile similar to cyclomethicone D5. The other versions, LexFeel N20, N50, N100, N200 and N350, are uncanny in their similarity to dimethicones. All of the products are


US subsidiary opened


Brazilian-based company, Beraca, has announced the opening of its first US subsidiary. The new office expands Beraca’s international strategy and aims to strengthen trade ties with the North American market. According to Beraca’s president, Ulisses Sabará, the city of Bridgewater, in New Jersey, was chosen for the opening of the new branch because approximately 70% of the country’s cosmetic market is located within less than 350 kilometers of the city. “The new office will optimise service and expedite product delivery to our North American clients,” says Sabará.

at Glenn Corporation and National Secretary at the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. With over 20 years of experience in the personal care industry, Dawn has worked in hair and skin care R&D/product development for Dow brands and technical sales manager for Collaborative Laboratories.

Vice president appointed


Robert Shengkui Hu has joined The HallStar Company’s senior management team as vice president, research and


development. He will initially report to and replace Gary Wentworth, who will retire from the specialty chemical company this year after overseeing the transition of his responsibilities.


“Robert’s background makes him an ideal fit for HallStar,” said John Paro, HallStar chairman, president, and CEO. “His experience with industrial coatings, photochemical science, and global markets goes a long way in easing the transition that Gary’s retirement brings.” Before joining HallStar, Dr Hu served as vice president of global technology at Beckers Consumer Design Finishes (CDF), a division of Beckers Industrial Coatings/Lindengruppen, which specialises in innovative coatings for consumer electronics and household appliances. He managed a technical team of

80 people in Asia, Europe, and North America, and was responsible for the division’s R&D strategy and patent portfolio.


Prior to Beckers, he held several key positions at PPG Industries, including technical director, Industrial Coatings in the Asia Pacific region. Based in China, he led an international team of 250 and established technical organisations in developing countries to support


the company’s global growth.


“Robert’s expertise in establishing and running international technical organisations aligns with HallStar’s expanding global presence,” said Gary Wentworth, retiring vice president of R&D, HallStar. “He is going to help this company move into new arenas with confidence.”


Dr Hu has a PhD in Photochemical Science from Bowling Green State University and has completed MBA training from the University of Pittsburgh.


Natural hair styling


Creating more natural and sustainable hair styling products has historically been a significant challenge for the formulating chemist. While naturally-based styling polymers have been available, they typically provided less than satisfactory performance and, often, increased cost. To satisfy consumers’ desire for styling products with increased sustainability along with high performance, the Global Personal Care business of AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry has introduced Structure Style polymer, a naturally- derived, starch-based polymer that provides multiple styling benefits along with the potential for significant formulation cost savings. Structure Style polymer (INCI: Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate) features effective rheology modification and film-forming capabilities to provide both excellent thickening and long-lasting hold. The polymer can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional rheology control polymers to help create styling products that are high-performing, aesthetically pleasing and economical.


“It’s our goal to provide more natural and sustainable polymers that meet the performance demands of formulators and consumers,” said Laurie Marshall, global marketing manager, hair styling, at AkzoNobel Global Personal Care. “With Structure Style polymer, it’s possible to create gels that display superior gloss and stiffness, improved dry comb and dry feel when compared to benchmark PVP/Carbomer gels.”
