elastin. The reaction with the secondary antibody was detected and the results were analysed and evaluated by densitometry. Observed was an elastin increase of 16% and 31% after 7 and 15 days of treatment with 1 mg/mL of a cream containing 5% pseudoalteromonas ferment extract in human keratinocytes.
Instrumental evaluation of skin roughness
A panel of 10 female volunteers applied a cream containing 5% pseudoalteromonas ferment extract around the eyes twice daily for 30 days. The silicon imprints of the treated areas were obtained at the beginning, and after 15 and 30 days of treatment. Then, they were analysed by a confocal microscopy LEICA TCS SPII adapted to a motorised microscopy Leitz DMIRB.
After 15 and 30 days of treatment with the cream containing pseudoalteromonas ferment extract the skin imprints presented an average roughness reduction of 33% and 44%.
Conclusion Pseudoalteromonas exopolysaccharides showed a water-retaining capacity higher than hyaluronic acid, suggesting a hyaluronic-like moisturising behaviour
in vitro. This capacity was confirmed in an in vivo study in which it also demonstrated immediate wrinkle reducing ability and long-lasting moisturising effects. Hyadisine demonstrated to be a good moisturising active ingredient for formulations looking for an immediate and long-lasting hydrating effect.
Thanks to its cryoprotective activity, pseudoalteromonas ferment extract protects the skin from extreme cold environments preventing it from dryness, and has proved to modify ice crystal morphology and delay the ice formation by decreasing the melting point. Antarcticine promotes skin cohesion and restructuration by specifically promoting HDF adhesion and HEK cellular growth. It also enhances skin regeneration, by notably inducing dermal protein synthesis and proved to provide an outstanding skin wrinkle reduction.
In the light of the results, it can be concluded that the search of new marine sources is an excellent approach to come up with innovative and sustainable cosmetic ingredients.
