seaweed and herbal extract on their left and right leg, twice daily. The results were measured using Visioscan®
VC 20 Plus skin imaging system for Day 0 and Day 14 to compared if there were any changes in the skin parameters and visual improvements. Selected photographs are shown below to illustrate the visual enhancement of dry skin after treatment. Statistical results on the parameters also
showed 70% hydration improvement on average compared to 32% for placebo (p<.01); 24% improvement on skin smoothness on average compared to 8% for placebo (P<.05); Skin scaliness reduction by 83% on average compared to 54% for placebo (P<.01) and lastly, skin plumpness improved by 26% on average compared to 13% for placebo (p<.01). Additionally, a self-reported survey was
completed by the volunteers to assess their perception on the improvement after treatment: ■ 94% of subjects noticed more hydrated skin ■ 88% of subjects noticed smoother skin ■ 85% of subjects noticed firmer skin
MMP inhibition Collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis are destroyed by Matrix Metallo Proteases (MMPs) like collagenases, elastases, gelatinases and so on. Sarcothalia circumcincta extract has been shown to chelate metal ions (85% of the chelation activity of EDTA). Since MMPs require the presence of a
divalent metal ion to activate their active site, chelation of the metal ion will reduce the MMP activity, thus protecting the dermis structure and reducing wrinkles.
Conclusion The extensive studies affirms that New Zealand red seaweed is not only a dynamo on its own to achieve superior hydration, but when combinedly extracted with additional New Zealand botanicals, the product offers superior support for skin care. The additional benefits of protection from
environmental stressor, antioxidant activity and skin smoothing makes OceanDerMX Restore and Protect an attractive ingredient for multiple skin care claims. As a novel, natural active harnessing the pristine environment of New
