Nagase Viita to unveil circadian rhythm research at IFSCC
Nagase Viita will present new insight to improve circadian rhythm disruptions by Glucosyl Naringin (GN) at next month’s 2024 International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) Congress in Brazil. At the poster session during the
event on 15-17 October at Iguazu Falls, the company will showcase the relationship between skin circadian rhythm and Glucosyl Naringin (GN), an upcycled personal care ingredient that is a glycosylated citrus polyphenol.
Naringin, the aglycon of
GN, is known to possess useful physiological functions such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. However, its extremely low
solubility has long hindered its use in personal care products. By combining glucose and
Naringin with Nagase Viita’s proprietary enzyme technology, its water solubility increased by more than 6,000 times. GN is scientifically proven to
Study shows ceramide boosting
effects of biotin A clinical study by Biosyntia has revealed the ceramide boosting and skin brightening properties of its natural biotin ingredient EraGlow Beautin. The Danish manufacturer says the boost of
endogen ceramides in the epidermis was shown in vivo in just one month, ensuring skin deep water content increase and skin reinforcement. After 28 days of treatment with liposomal
natural biotin, an average 30% increase in ceramides and fatty acids at the outermost layer of the stratum corneum was observed. In addition to this, a 14.5% increase in skin
gloss parameters were recorded, which coupled with a 3% reduction in brown spot area shows the skin brightening potential of liposomal biotin. In vitro, the liposomal natural biotin has
demonstrated strong antioxidant effects with up to 45% ROS reduction. EraGlow Beautin by Biosyntia, is a vectorised
natural biotin (aka vitamin B7) obtained by fermentation. Biosyntia uses a proprietary sustainable GMP
fermentation process of plant carbohydrates sourced in Europe that drastically removes the use of petrochemicals, while reducing CO2 emissions as well as energy and water consumption, to produce their Bio-B7 biotin.
improve skin elasticity, making it beneficial for anti-ageing products. To further evaluate GN’s effects
on skin, Nagase Viita examined the relationship between GN and circadian rhythm, the body’s biological clock. Nagase Viita investigated how
GN alters the expression of clock genes and other related genes, discovering that it improves circadian rhythm disturbances caused by oxidative stress in epidermal keratinocytes.
It is also
known that disruptions to skin circadian rhythm due to lifestyle changes and daily stress can lead to skin dryness and roughness. These findings inspired personal
care companies to create skincare products tailored for morning and night use: daytime products aim to minimize stress and external disturbances, while nighttime products focus on nourishing and repairing the skin during sleep.
