How would you describe the EDP?

Teresia Roberts Chief Project Officer, Casino St. Moritz

Kerryjane: Te Executive Development Programme is without doubt one of the most challenging educational programmes I have attended in my adult years, and equally the most fulfilling. Te week-long course, taking place against the stunning backdrop of Lake Tahoe, set an amazing agenda with exposure to industry greats and a line-up of speakers who sought to change our mindsets about the industry.

I found myself thoroughly engaged with every session, and totally absorbed in the topics. Each team was tasked with a casino-related project and I found myself individually challenged as part of the overall team effort. Sharing our expertise within our team was very important to completing the tasks and I was conscious of not letting the side down. Each of us had to step up to the mark and we learned so much every day of the EDP.

Kerryjane Craigie Director of Poker, The Hippodrome Casino

Te Executive Development Programme is a collaborative effort between the UNLV International Gaming Institute and the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business and Extended Studies.

Te EDP, running for over three decades, has become a steppingstone for gaming executives seeking to elevate their leadership skills and strategic thinking. Participants in the programme have the unique opportunity to learn and share best practices with peers from around the world. Tis year's scholarships have been awarded to two aspiring leaders, both hoping to expand their professional education within the industry.

For the last six years, the European Casino Association has supported two European attendees with its Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship. Winners of the scholarships in 2023 were Kerryjane Craigie from Te Hippodrome Casino, London, and Teresia Roberts from Casino St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Te jury chose these accomplished individuals in recognition of their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the casino industry. Both kindly agreed to share their experiences following the EDP 2023.

Teresia: I had an amazing time. Te Executive Development Programme is so well organised, you really appreciate the expertise and experience of those planning such a long- standing and well-respected event. For me, it was an opportunity to meet extraordinary people over a week that I’d describe as one of the best of my professional life.

You engage with people you'd never meet or have the chance to connect with in your normal working environment. It is also a lot of fun. Tere’s a framework of evening events that allow you to connect with a wide group of people. Te speakers are amazing, and topics provide lots of relevant content for leadership progression in this profession. It is also really hands-on with group assignments and interactivity within the teams of 10-11 people assigned to complete a huge assignment in a very intense period.

What did you know about the EDP going into it - and what surprised you about the event?

Teresia: I wasn't aware of the EDP before being nominated by CAI Headquarters and my manager to apply for the scholarship.

Kerryjane: I was fortunate to have colleagues who had previously attended the EDP. However, they were guarded in giving away too many details, ensuring that I experienced the EDP at my own pace of discovery.

During the presentations there were several speakers that really stood out. Former EDP
