February 2024

I attended the first International Casino Exhibition in 1992 after the event was renamed from the National Casino Industry Forum. Held at Earls Court for more than two decades, it was initially a small gathering of UK land-based casinos and suppliers. I recall the whole floor brimming with park amusement machines with just a single casino stand, John Huxley. The event was organised by the British Amusement and Catering Trade Association (BACTA) until it sold ATE Group in 2004. One of the best things about Earls Court was that when the exhibition closed for the day, it simply upped sticks to the surrounding pubs and bars, notably The Blackbird. It was there that meaningful conversations were had, business deals closed and friendships made.

It was at my first ICE show with G3 in 2005 when I felt there was a changing of the guard with the likes of Bally, NOVOMATIC and Aristocrat ballooning in size. It was a 180 degree shift from the 90s as park equipment moved into the smaller exhibition space at Earls Court, but that was nothing compared to the move to the ExCeL in February 2013. It was suggested at the time that upgrades made to the Docklands Light Railway and Jubilee Line made the move viable, but the truth was that it had to relocate because it had simply outgrown the venue.

EVOLUTION HAS BEEN PART OF THE DNA OF ICE FROM THE OUTSET, ENABLING IT TO KEEP UP WITH CHANGING NEEDS AND TRENDS.

Evolution has been part of the DNA of ICE from the outset, enabling it to keep up with the changing needs and trends of the industries it represents. Whilst the event focused on land-based casinos and cabinets in the early years, it quickly adapted to the advent of the Internet to include sports betting, iGaming and all the technology and services that go with it. ICE London has been a crucial event in the industry calendar for decades and has always been an incredibly important show for G3. The event provides a platform for companies to showcase their latest products, technologies, and services to a global audience, as well as a forum for discussing important issues affecting the industry - which is exactly what we strive to deliver at G3 Media. Despite a touch of sentiment as we say goodbye to London, we're excited to see what Barcelona has to offer in 2025.
