Comet Combines X-Ray, Plasma and E-Beam Technology at Lab One

ombining different equipment and technologies in one place can be a daunting task, but it is one that The Comet Group has met head-on in Silicon Valley. Comet’s Lab One comprises three technology groups — YXLON, Plasma Control Technologies (PCT) and ebeam — in one location in a collaborative work- space designed to help engineers solve difficult problems.

For the company’s customers, Lab One is a working lab and testing environment that can act as an extension of their own businesses. The lab offers testing services, as well as access to a think tank of industry experts who are available for consultation and brainstorming. At the core of Comet’s success with its customers in Silicon Valley are the trusted and collaborative rela- tionships that it has cultivated. Lab One is the first testing lab of its kind to offer a “pay-as-you-go” service-model approach that allows customers to test under real-world conditions and gather the data they need to improve quality and increase yields and repeatability.
Three Key Technologies YXLON develops and markets create better products.
Plasma Control Technologies (PCT) integrates vacuum capacitors into custom RF impedance matching units for advanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and etch processes for semiconductor device manufac- turers and OEMs.
The company’s RF power prod- ucts improve the performance of the equipment its customers use to cre- ate chips for computers and mobile devices. Manufacturers can then deliver products that run faster, last longer and can store more informa- tion.

X-ray systems. YXLON’s X-ray and computed tomography (CT) technolo- gy provides imaging and analysis data. These systems contain excel- lent hardware and software for qual- ity and assurance testing. YXLON X- ray systems can be used to diagnose real yield issues in next-generation designs. X-ray and CT are often used
in the aerospace, automotive, elec- tronics, foundries, lab (R&D), and medical devices. They have even been used by museums and universi- ties to view potential defects in devices or samples that are 200 times smaller than a human hair. The electron beam technologies and equipment are used in the areas of sterilization, curing and thin film development in the semiconductor, medical and industrial markets. Customers use this technology to refine existing materials and create new ones, as well as to develop clean- er processes and achieve greater resource efficiencies.
