products. We also enjoy more cost savings thanks to the very low main- tenance requirements of the SP700, all of which is handled by our own personnel,” explains Villeda. It quickly became an easy deci-
sion to move away from the company’s incumbent stencil equipment suppli- er. Inevitably, there was a learning curve, but this only served to further contrast the proactive support on offer from Speedprint. “Part of the issue with our incumbent printing ma- chines was the large number of op- tions required to configure them the way we wanted,” says Le. “That uncovered a lack of local
expertise in the supplier’s support in- frastructure. Some of our support re- quests went unanswered for six months,” says Le. Happily, MAI re-

ports that the support available from Ken Masci at Speedprint’s local Cali- fornia distributor is a very different story. “We know that someone will always show up,” he says. It’s not only about time saving.
Quality has been increased too, with a reduction in defects at the printer of 20 percent or more. Machine fea- tures that include Speedprint’s dual roving camera system contribute to this valuable improvement.
Five More Printers The turning point in the deci-
sion to change printer supplier, and to select Speedprint, was mostly due to the unanticipated arrival of the SP700 printer in the SMT room. “The ability to keep it for more than enough time to contrast the improve- ments we could enjoy was critical. You can’t ignore that sort of real-life comparison,” explains Villeda. MAI then purchased five more
Speedprint SP700 series printers to replace all the old incumbent models in its other five SMT assembly lines. That makes Micro Analog Speed- print’s largest installed base under one roof in the U.S. Bickmeier says that customers
and prospects visit the MAI site and of- ten ask if the company is happy with its screen printers. “We have no hesita- tion in explaining the selection process and sharing our delight with the posi- tive outcome,” she says. “The SP700 is a low-maintenance machine that has given us no problems whatsoever.” A new capabilities video pro-
duced by Micro Analog presented by CEO Hung Nguyen directly refer- ences the company’s satisfaction with the SP700’s reliability. In the video, Nguyen explains that the Micro Ana- log executive team “invested in the ac- quisition of six SP700 screen printers because they have proved to be reli- able, the quality is outstanding and they’re efficient.” He continues by adding, “More importantly, Speed- print customer service is excellent.” The future for Micro Analog in the Golden State is bright. “SMT
packages are getting smaller, so our customers are designing smaller- footprint products. We must have manufacturing practices that are lean, efficient, cost-effective and flex- ible to maintain our competitive edge,” concludes Bickmeier. Contact: Micro Analog, Inc., 1861
