DESCRIPTION

This is a two year full-time course, year 1 certificated to HNC Computing. The HND Computing: IT Support has an emphasis on IT support and maintenance of software and hardware together with project management and core skills.

As such, it is intended to prepare candidates for employment in the field of IT support maintenance of computer software and hardware.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of HNC Computing or equivalent.

QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION

In addition, it enables successful candidates to progress to appropriate degree courses in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems. A formal agreement exists with University of the West of Scotland and the possibility of entry into third year at university should be possible in most cases, otherwise second year entry is likely.

DESCRIPTION

The European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. The record breaking ECDL is the fastest growing IT user qualification in over 125 countries.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their I.T. skills and enhance their career prospects.

No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study ECDL.

CONTENT

The ECDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society. It is broken down into seven modules, each of which must be passed before an ECDL certificate is awarded.

The seven modules that make up the ECDL are: Basic Concepts of IT | Using the Computer and Managing Files | Word Processing | Spreadsheets | Database | Presentation | Information and Communication.

QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION

The internationally recognised ECDL certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the seven modules. Progression to the ECDL Advanced Certificate (Expert Level) is recommended.
